In action at the mini-hackathon in the Aarau City Museum
The Stadtmuseum Aarau is planning an exhibition about games and their role in the digital transformation of society – a process that is to be shaped by museums. Visiting the exhibition should become a game in itself. Game mechanisms and technologies are to be integrated into the exhibition concept in order to arouse emotions and curiosity and connect different audience segments.
To enrich this vision with concrete ideas, the Stadtmuseum Aarau invited us to a hackathon in which we took part with our best game designers. The result of a creative afternoon was a concept that appeals to visitors of all ages and takes them out of their everyday lives and into the world of gaming. Visitors can leave individual traces as they walk through the museum – similar to playing with sidewalk chalk. They are also encouraged to read the signs of previous visitors as a kind of guide and construct their own paths through the exhibition. The resulting interactions with the exhibits are recorded in simple, given symbols for subsequent visitors. A gameified, crowdsourced museum guide. Enclosed are a few impressions from the sewing box.
