Increased efficiency thanks to technological change
With the mySWICA app, SWICA customers have access to the latest benefit and premium statements at any time, can submit invoices, view the remaining amount of their deductible, or contact SWICA customer service.
Mobile-optimized features such as photo upload, chat function, and Face ID login are particular highlights of mySWICA. This means that administrative tasks relating to health insurance can be taken care of in the evening on the tram, for example, leaving the weekend free for the finer things in life.

The mySWICA app was originally developed using native technologies: one development team worked on the iOS app and another on the Android app. In comparison, cross-platform technologies offer the advantage of covering both OS versions based on a single code base. This is a huge efficiency advantage that SWICA is also taking advantage of.
For this reason, Bitforge was commissioned to rewrite the existing app in a Flutter rewrite. This investment in technological change is supposedly large, but will pay for itself within 2-3 years, as the costs for further development with Flutter are significantly lower than with the native setup.
The new mySWICA app went live in May 2024. Customers will hardly notice any difference – while everything shines brightly new in the background. A successful rewrite!
For the front end, we rely on the established cross-platform framework Flutter. This ensures high code reusability for iOS and Android, strong performance, and ultimately a lightweight app.
In addition to high performance, stability was also a major focus during development: this was ensured by complete caching of the app content (rolling cache).
For the backend, we rely on Firebase: The real-time database ensures high data quality, and the cloud-native approach easily handles peaks in usage. In addition, the headless backend ensures a simpler, less error-prone infrastructure.
«Bitforge is an incredibly reliable partner for SWICA in the area of app development. The team works with great commitment on the further development of the app and takes responsibility in complex situations.»

The implementation of secure login via fingerprint or facial recognition ensures fast and protected access. With simple and quick onboarding, we ensure that new users can find their way around immediately. The clear dashboard has been designed to provide intuitive user guidance.
The app is designed to serve as a central storage location for all insurance documents and statements. To optimize the handling of large amounts of data, we implemented an efficient search and filter function that guarantees quick access to specific documents. The integration of an automatic push notification proactively informs customers about new documents.
The integration of the chat function enables direct, asynchronous communication with customer service. The function is designed so that customers can easily share documents and information in the chat. Traceable communication also ensures maximum transparency and legal certainty in the exchange.
To simplify the process of submitting receipts, the app allows users to quickly and easily scan receipts using their smartphone and upload them securely. Customers can also track the status of their submitted documents in real time at any time.
