Working at Bitforge: More than a fruit basket

Skilled workers are in demand. This “state of emergency” has been prevalent in the IT sector in particular, and not just since the pandemic. You can advertise as much as you like with free coffee and “Töggelichaschte”. Nowadays, this no longer attracts anyone. We’ve known this for a long time, which is why we’re allowed “a little more”.

BOSA AWARD BITFORGE

Our team spirit ensures that we have good reason to celebrate every year at the Best of Swiss App. Picture: BOSA

First things first: yes, coffee is free here. And the after-work beer and mate are also available in the fridge. Some team members have also discovered the joy of baking banana bread and other treats and now bring cookies and cakes to the office (which is a ten-minute walk from the main station, by the way) almost every week. Recently, there was a Mario Kart tournament on the big screen and the sporty group sometimes goes up the Uetliberg together or goes swimming on Mondays.

All well and good. It is now clear to everyone that today’s job seekers value more than 9 to 5 and the caffeine kick sponsored by the office. For us, it’s also true:

  • 40-hour week and annual working hours
  • 9 days of personnel / professional development and internal training days / workshops
  • A team that celebrates joint successes and learns from each other
  • Flexible working from home and on site at our two locations, both a ten-minute walk from Zurich main station
  • State-of-the-art work equipment and office infrastructure (your own, latest MacBook including, of course, the coffee machine)
  • An extremely fun and diverse team (seriously now!)
  • CHF 500 to your sports subscription (for the sporty group, whether for fitness, bouldering or swimming)
  • Discounts on cell phone subscriptions
  • Snacks à discretion (80% healthy, 20% potato chips and the above-mentioned banana bread)

That makes sense

But of course it’s not all fun and games – after all, you’re there to realize innovative app projects. Nowadays, one term is at the center of the job search (and if you take a look at LinkedIn from time to time, you definitely can’t avoid it): Purpose.

We stand behind what we do and we love what we are able to implement for our customers and partners. Everyone is committed to developing ingenious apps and high-quality products. Even if we don’t expect our developers to continue working at home out of sheer passion or our UX designers to sleep with color schemes under their pillows, we still try to meet this demand for meaningfulness in the workplace.

Focus on personal development

Only those who are satisfied themselves and can realize and contribute within their own framework will also work well in a team. For us, this includes regular 1:1 discussions in which we can address the individual needs of the team. For us, the focus is always on the individual.

This also includes interests and individual wishes for professional development. Some of our team members grow into new roles, take on new tasks or change their area of responsibility completely. In addition, every employee is given time for personal development. With 100% employment, this amounts to 70 hours per year. During this time, everyone has the opportunity to devote themselves to their own topic or area of interest and to develop their skills accordingly.

Team cohesion

To ensure that we also work together optimally as a team, there are several team events each year. These include the monthly team lunch (Bitlunch), regular after-work beers including gaming sessions, summer barbecue events and, of course, Christmas Day, to name but a few. Sometimes there’s also a spontaneous party in between. For example, we have already organized a Beyblade championship.

We are convinced that our team spirit is largely responsible for the fact that our products regularly win prizes such as the BOSA clear up. Because we pull together and always focus on the solution instead of the problem – and treat each other with genuine respect and appreciation.
