News from the augmented reality market
We are back from the winter vacations with lots of energy and new ideas. Another augmented reality project is underway. Various workshops on augmented and virtual reality are currently being held or planned. A successful start to 2018.
Shortly before the end of the year, the market for AR hardware also made a long-promised leap. Magic Leap announced its first AR hardware solution, the Magic Leap One Creators Edition. The company has been making headlines in recent months and years. The Florida-based start-up has received a total of almost 2 billion dollars in funding from Google, Ali Express, J.P. Morgan and others – without ever having launched a product on the market. The company is said to have already registered a total of 150 patents and developed its own revolutionary light field technology for displaying digital content. Our expectations of the hardware, which consists of glasses (Lightwear), a wearable computer (Lightpack) and a controller (Control), are correspondingly high. Like the Microsoft Hololens and the Meta 2, it should work with SLAM tracking and contain additional cameras. What Microsoft has only planned for the Hololens 2, Magic Leap has already built in – a machine learning chip. A user test will show whether this is a dream of the future or just a Me Too product. One thing has to be said in advance: Magic Leap’s marketing department has done a great job in recent years. Above all, the simple and dynamic interaction with the 3D content, as well as the fluidity with which the images are rendered, make us curious. Here is an impressive video: Magic Leap Concept Video. The exact release date is not yet known. However, it is set to revolutionize the way we think about augmented reality and how we interact with 3D content. Stay tuned, we will keep you up to date.
