Next level customer advice with remote AR sales
The last two years have brought digitalization a big step forward. Many new opportunities for virtual interaction have emerged, which also promise success in the future. Online stores have experienced an unprecedented upswing, so it is only logical that the virtual shopping experience is also evolving. To this end, we have teamed up with feey and launched the “Remote AR Sales” pilot project: The video call app that allows a customer advisor to place products directly in the customer’s living room or office.
Revolutionizing consulting with remote AR sales
Consulting is the be-all and end-all for many companies and they always want to provide the best for their customers. In most cases, on-site consultation is essential and therefore a time-consuming but also logistical effort, especially when it comes to larger equipment, decorations and furnishings in offices or surgeries.
With the solution that we developed and tested together with feey, customers and advisors only need one tablet with a camera function each. In the case of feey, nothing stands in the way of virtual plant advice: customer advisors can place plants from the product catalog in the customer’s office or home using the camera function. They can immediately see whether or not they like the plant in the respective location.

Plants like the ideal location
The advisor also benefits from the visual aid of the camera: Plants are demanding and the right place for each plant is essential to ensure that they can be enjoyed for a long time. This requires specialist knowledge!
The fact that feey’s experts can also see the lighting conditions in the rooms directly via the app, for example, allows them to select and present the plants that thrive best there.
Advantages for customers through AR
However, the consultation does not necessarily have to take place remotely. It can also be helpful on site to show customers directly via tablet how the respective plants look in the room. Remote AR is therefore a useful gadget for the consultant and an important aid for potential customers, especially in the B2B sector, i.e. for furnishing entire offices or practices.
This topic is particularly relevant for bulky products or those where size, color and shape have a strong impact on the look and feel in the room. The visual representation of a product in its (potential) future environment can make the purchase decision much easier, as the Swiss Augmented Reality Study by the University of Lucerne has shown.

A successful pilot project
Together with feey, we have gained initial experience with the tool and the results are promising, as Reto Senn, Partner at Bitforge, can confirm. “Remote AR Sales has been very well received”. With the app, it is possible to improve the consultation for customers as well as for sales representatives. We are now taking the lessons learned with us for a final, productive AR Sales solution. A few small updates are still being implemented, such as the preparation and saving of several variants and a direct connection of the app without the need for a phone call.
Customer advice via mobile app
Until now, one advantage of shopping in-store was the personal advice that online retail lacked. “Thanks to Remote AR Sales, we can finally offer customers personal advice online too,” says Severin from feey. We have now been able to close this gap with Remote AR Sales.
It has been proven that augmented reality is increasingly finding its way into everyday life (read more here). Digitized customer advice is the next step in the further development of online retail and takes this development into account.
