Filmcoopi: A Digital Home for Independent Film

Filmcoopi Zurich has been a staple of the Swiss film distribution industry for over 50 years and presents around 30 new arthouse productions each year. The existing web platform, originally designed by Ginetta, was taken over by Bitforge after Ginetta ceased operations to ensure smooth operation, technical optimization, and continuous development for Filmcoopi and its audience.

Project Background & Context

Filmcoopi Zurich has been a staple in the Swiss film distribution industry for over 50 years. As a specialist in arthouse cinema, the company presents around 30 new productions from a wide variety of genres each year.

Its existing web platform, filmcoopi.ch, was originally designed by the agency Ginetta and implemented using a tech stack based on React, Next.js, and the headless CMS Cockpit.

After Ginetta ceased operations in 2025, we took over the project. Since then, our focus has been on ensuring smooth operations, technical optimization, and the further development of the platform to meet the high standards of Filmcoopi and its audience.

Our Services

1. Migration & Hosting Optimization

The first step involved migrating and stabilizing the technical setup.

Infrastructure Migration: Moving the entire application to our specialized hosting environment.
Performance & Security: Ongoing maintenance of the headless architecture, as well as troubleshooting and
quality assurance.
Monitoring & Optimization: Measuring availability and optimizing load times.

2. Implementation of New Features & Enhancements

Instead of merely maintaining the status quo, we are continuing to develop the platform using an agile approach. We are working with Filmcoopi to design and implement functional enhancements to continuously improve the user experience.

New Showtimes: We have replaced the previous showtimes from https://outnow.ch—which were embedded as an iframe—with a new solution built specifically for Filmcoopi. This solution is based on the movie listings from https://www.cineimage.ch, which we process and integrate directly into the movie page.
New Cookie Banner: To improve data protection and the user experience, we have replaced Cookiebot with the Swiss solution https://biskoui.ch/.
UI/UX Design: Design and implementation of new components that seamlessly complement the existing visual concept.
Functional Development: Implementation of new content views and technical enhancements in the front end.
System Integration: Optimization and expansion of external interface connections for an automated data flow.
